Host Apparitions

During the course of the event, mortals will arrive at the Nexus to praise, lobby, or beg the character whose Territory they come from. You will be playing a succession of these over the course of the event, under your own initiative. This role suits people who are creative and like generating dramatic tension.

Purpose

  • To help the players feel a sense of ownership over their Territory and its inhabitants
  • To bring the events of geomancy to life
  • To make the players feel big and important
  • DRAMA

Pre-Game Responsibilities

  • Read the wiki and familiarise yourself with the game world. You do not need to learn any of the rules around geomancy, or shaping. You only need to learn the combat rules if you are also serving as a Training Drone.
  • Pack a vaguely monk/sifu/ninja style costume in muted colours.
  • Pack as many accessories (fantasy/contemporary/futuristic) as is practical.

Game Responsibilities

  • Observe events at the Geomancy tables, and develop ideas for characters who may have been affected by them.
  • Change into a suitable outfit for the brief, and have a mark painted onto your brow.
  • Use the brief to play a Petitioner who will seek out the character who owns their Territory, and interact with them in a way that serves to bring recent events to life.
  • Return after no more than thirty minutes, to relax and start developing a new brief.

  • To maintain the Affront schedule in coordination with the Nexus apparition(s).

Purpose

To administrate the game, including the creation of all in-game cards.

Pre-Game Responsibilities

  • Learn the Shaping rules in detail.
  • Pack a vaguely monk/sifu/ninja style costume in muted colours.

Game Responsibilities

  • To respond to players questions about Shaping rules.
  • To manage the Shaping of items, exchanging mana for pre-printed item cards.
  • To tailor and print, on demand, customised cards like Tethers, Qualities, Soulforges, and Focuses.
  • To check that characters have the Motives or Tethers they need to create the items they want.
  • To manage the loan and return of the Advanced Shaping List placards.
  • To look after the electronic and card-printing equipment you have been provided with.
  • To refer players to the appropriate Apparitions for other rules questions.
  • To receive complaints and discuss them with the Head Apparition.

The Nexus is the main play area, where characters interact with one another. Apparitions are present to answer rules queries, make announcements, and provide other assistance as necessary. This role suits someone with a strong presence and calm manner.

To manage the social environment of the game.

Pre-Game Responsibilities

  • Learn the Tether rules in detail.
  • Learn the other rules in as much detail as possible.
  • Pack some writing equipment (or a reliable tablet) of your choice.
  • Pack a vaguely monk/sifu/ninja style costume in muted colours.

Game Responsibilities

  • To announce the creation of Tethers.
  • To announce the declaration of Affronts, and register these with the Affront Apparitions.
  • To enable players to make other announcements where you believe there is justification to do so.
  • To enforce the contact rules.
  • To intercede on persistent disruptions to the social environment (e.g. loud and prolonged arguments).
  • To respond to players questions where possible.
  • To refer players to the appropriate Apparitions for other rules questions.
  • To receive complaints and discuss them with the Head Apparition.
